Winnipeg Pet Nanny

About Joyce

Hello, I'm Joyce.

I was born and raised in Winnipeg, and I have been looking after other people's pets for 15 years.

I run Winnipeg Pet Nanny myself. When you book, I am the one who comes to your door and gets to know your pets.

A life full of animals.

My first dog was a Chihuahua named Teco. She was a handful. Then came Suzie, a dachshund, who was as loving and sweet as they come.

In 2008 I moved to a farm, and the family grew. Two horses, Billy and Bobby. A house cat, a cockatiel, and a blue-fronted Amazon parrot who loved to play and talk. And always dogs, some of them born right there on the farm.

My favourite was Pepper, a pup I kept from one of those litters and named for his colouring. We had a very close bond. Then there was the neighbour's dog who decided my house was home. It refused to stay with its owner, so in the end it moved in, and it slept in my bed every night.

15 years of looking after other people's pets.

I taught school in St. James, and I was dog sitting in Winnipeg even then. While I lived out at Lac du Bonnet, I kept pet sitting, including around Oakbank, and for five years I ran a pet store, helping people with feeding and caring for their animals.

I have cared for cocker spaniels, Dobermans and shepherds, and Jack Russells and Dobermans will always be my soft spot. I have looked after cats, budgies, cockatiels, parrots and even iguanas.

Today I live in Charleswood, close to an off-leash park where I love meeting dogs and their owners.

Why I do this.

I know how hard it is to leave your pet. Nobody can replace you in their eyes, so you have to trust the person who comes in your place.

When work or travel takes you away, your pet gets the care, attention and love they deserve, the same I have always given my own. They are in good hands with me.

What you can expect from me.

  • I meet you first. Before any booking, I meet you and your pets and learn how you do things.
  • I keep your routine. Same meals, same walks, same bedtime, in their own home.
  • I keep you posted. While you are away, I let you know how your pets are doing.

The animals I look after

Dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, fish, horses and small animals. For home visits and overnights, any breed of dog is welcome.

For walks, I take small and medium dogs. A larger dog, up to about the size of a Doberman, is welcome if it is very well behaved and very well leash-trained.

Start with a meet and greet.

Tell Joyce about your pets and the dates you need. She will get back to you to set a time to meet.
